We, at Statesman Debate, are open to both spiritual and material evidence. Much good flows from this openness. Among other things, there is this enhanced ability to explore deeply, to wit, to grapple with the source of liberty and the great contending perspectives that liberty springs from the vaunted “FREE MARKET” or from the machinery of THE STATE or from the proclaimed “KING OF KINGS” or from a god who does NOT appear incarnate on earth.
Isaac Newton’s copy of his opus Principia.
Newton’s book made popular the view that the universe obeyed coherent laws and ran by itself, like a clock, and needed no Christ “incarnate.” James Madison, “father” of the US Constitution, was a Newtonian and believed that a government could be established in America that, once set in motion, could function indefinitely or with practically no “rewinding.” Newton authored the 18th century cosmos, whence Madison and company fashioned their cosmion. Some may take exception with this characterization of Madison or with a “Newtonian” government or both. Thus, the grounds for important debates!
